Blossom Park Kindergarten recognises that your privacy is very important to you. Providing your personal information is an act of trust that we take very seriously. We will take reasonable steps to comply with the following principles in relation to the personal information you give to us about you.

Background and Relevant Legislation
All staff and volunteers of Blossom Park Kindergarten are required by law to protect the personal and health information the Kindergarten collects and holds.
The Victorian privacy laws, the Information Privacy Act 2000 and Health Records Act 2001, provide for the protection of personal and health information.
The privacy laws do not replace any existing obligations Blossom Park Kindergarten has under other laws. Essentially this policy will apply when other laws do not regulate the use of personal information.

In the following procedures relating to the handling of personal information and displaying children’s artwork, will comply with the Information Privacy Act.
- All personal information collected will be kept in locked filing cabinet.
- Teacher and staff files to be kept in separate covered folders.
- All files of staff/committee and children to be shredded once retention requirements are met.
- Access to personal information on computer only to authorised personnel.
- Staff/Committee to be aware of having conversations with clients over the phone or in person without being heard.
- Access to personal information only by authorised persons.
- All persons volunteering during sessions will need to sign confidentiality agreements. If an agreement is not signed, then the person cannot volunteer during a session. If the confidentiality is breeched, then the person will no longer be able to volunteer at Blossom Park Kindergarten.
Where consent for the use and disclosure of personal information is required, the kindergarten will seek consent from the appropriate person. In the case of a student’s personal information, the kindergarten will seek the consent from the parent.
